Why Work-Life Balance is Important

Business Coaches Can Have Work-Life Balance Too

Having a work-life balance as a business coach can be really challenging most especially when you have lots of clients, flooding around you.

For instance, you are up before the break of dawn, spend half of the day submerged in attending to your various clients, get back home completely exhausted, then you fall asleep before you head hits the pillow. Barely a few hours later you are awake to repeat the same routine, for a new day.

Did I just describe someone’s work-life?

But hey! Remember It’s your personal business and that means you call the shots and can easily navigate your way, to ensure that can enjoy a balanced work-life.

We need to be realistic, you can’t get to do everything that concerns your job in one day. we need to elongate the time frame upon which we judge the balance in our lives.

Are you thinking of having a life when you retire? When your kids have left or probably when your spouse must have gotten a divorce from you.

The truth is you never really retire. So now is the time you need to pause and think about an approach to having a balanced work-life.

Importance of Work-Life Balance

There are other parts to life apart from your work-life; there’s the emotional part, the family, the spiritual side and lots more. But to be balanced I believe we need to attend to all areas in order not to cause our work or personal life to suffer.

Work-life balance involves juggling workplace stress with the daily pressures of family, friends, and self.

Having a work-life balance tends to make you feel more motivated and less stressed out at work, which thereby increases company productivity and reduces the number of conflicts among coworkers and management.

Studies have shown that employees who have a positive work-life balance do a better job at work, so promoting this balance is beneficial to individuals and the company.

So as a business coach, who have a reputation for encouraging work-life balance, you not only become very attractive to clients but also draw a valuable pool of more clients to your business and tend to enjoy higher retention rates, which results in less time-consuming training, more loyalty, and a higher degree of in-house expertise of team members. As a business owner yourself, Entrepreneur explains that work-life balance is what entrepreneurs need in 2019.

4 Tips For Improving Work-Life Balance

Here are 4 tips that could help you live a good and healthy work-life balance as a business coach:

1. Define Your Priorities

For you to spell out your priorities right you must be able you to identify:

  • Your major business passion
  • What your dislikes are towards the business
  • Your personal beliefs and values
  • Talents or specialty

I outlined these because they are core ingredients that shapes our lives generally to a large extent and they have a great role to play in all aspects of our lives.

Identifying these helps you understand and create conditions for your life that will allow you to fulfill your business passion and priorities, follow your beliefs and values, maximize your talents and avoid as many as your self-imposed obstacles as you can.

2. Maintain Structural Consistency

It is important to maintain a sense of consistency and organization in your business. One of the ways to do that as a business coach is to create the hours in your business that you want to work.

Because if your working days are long, then  you’re going to fill those hours with work. But when you reduce your hours, you may miraculously manage to achieve a lot more in those short hours.

Have your plan properly spelled out on a timetable to help you know what to expect day-to-day as often as possible.

This reduces the feeling of anxiety and the stress of being tied up with unexpected work loads of activities. Schedule your meetings with your clients at designated times, and allot time frame within which you want your work to be completed.

Although there might be little shakes that could alter your plans but appropriate planning helps for proper coordination and organization to your work without being overwhelmed with too much workload.

3. Never Try to Do Everything on Your Own

Never shy away from seeking help and when necessary paying for it. I know it might be quite difficult as a coach resisting the urge of having to do most of the work all by yourself but at the end of the day you just might end up wearing out yourself and getting less work done.

Get all the necessary experts that you know would be required for your work. More details are in my previous article here.

By and large, having not to perform all the task on your own gives you more time to focus on the main work which you are really good at; being a coach; teaching and marketing and having enough time to focus on other aspects of your life. Knowing fully well that you have capable hands working to ensure the growth of your business.

4. Create a Plan to Have a Break

According to neuroscience planned breaks in businesses get our creative juices flowing.

For some coaches, having a break in their business might mean ‘my business would fall apart’.

But the truth is, a break might actually be what you just need to pull off that next big deal, all you need to have, is a solid plan that your business will run on why you are away.

Basically all you need to do is:

  • Write  and schedule in advance all your blog posts, newsletters, social media posts and others.
  • Inform your clients of your impending absence – offer to work with them in a slightly different way.
  • Set up an “out of office” email responder – that lets people know when you will be available again.
  • Create digital content that people can buy while you’re not there, promote it on social media and in your newsletter!
  • Assign any other tasks to others where possible.

Then you can take time off to spend quality time with your family in a non-work mood environment.
